Too much giving

I had this idea of rounding up one of those typical lists of summer songs. At the top of said list was, of course, the summery-est of all singles this year: "Up Up Up" by Givers. Holy damn, can you just frolic like a happy hippie through the prairie with this one.
Alas, it took me too long to post said list and now I've lost my headliner. The reason: they released this stupid video for the song. I just can't endorse the song any more.

Please do ignore the apparent lameness of the band, and try to imagine the song as a simple summer tune.

At least this rant now rescues June from a slump (word of the day in Lausanne).

Oh La La

Since Natasha Le Jeune showed up on the French Rock scene as the lead singer of A.S. Dragon, parisians everywhere have wanted to date her and parisiennes everywhere have wanted to be her. She quit that gig in 2007, leaving a bunch of fans anticipating what she'd do next.

Well, her new band Oh La La just put out a record full of short pop-rock catchy songs. Their first single is "Oser" and they released a video for it at the end of April. The song is as sticky as the Nickelodeon inspired goo they're throwing everywhere. Enjoy:

Safety Rat's Return

My last days in Europe are fast approaching and to celebrate I'm sitting in front of my laptop at UNIL, but FEAR not working still means surfing the internet. Do we still surf the internet or have I dated myself? I've been accused of that before. Anywho, I've got some Mazes for you, London band avec Tumblr http://mazesmazesmazes.com/. I'm not wild about the song, but the video made me realize that I haven't been on a bike in 3 weeks (plus it prominently features the bar tape on my new Schwinn). Schwinng! Enjoy and keep the heater on in Austin I'm coming home on Sunday.

I'm not really sure what's going on here. The woman responsible is Monica Menez, who I think is a german. Here's the site: http://www.monicamenez.de/mm/News/. How do we feel about art and music at last choice? Should things remain music only (go ahead and post aggressive comments reminding me that music is art, but you know I agree). Putting the pie in pizza pie.

Not so simple

Atlanta natives Manchester Orchestra released their best album to date in May, Simple Math. It's a concept album that chronicles the life of a 23rd year old as he questions life. I guess someone has daddy issues...

Stereogum recently named the video for their first single, also titled Simple Math, one of their favorites of the year so far — I for one agree.

Here it is for your viewing pleasure:

A new song for Wolf's "Wolf" mix

The Glasgow band "A Band Called Quinn" just released a tasty new single earlier this month. And since our often guest contributor Wolf likes to collect songs about wolves, I thought it would be nice to introduce her to this one.

You May Have The Body, But Do You Have the Soul?

My first nescafe of the season inspired me to post from my commanding view of the Spanish Mediterranean. Actually the look left is of a massive seawall under-construction so don't get too jealous. Alright, I'm off to La Boqueria for a hogs head lunch, enjoy the music and stay cool Austin...literally.

Gold on Gold is a music art collaboration between the 5 piece, Africo-Australian group Clubfeet and filmmaker Alex Goddard. They're calling releases 'chapters' with regular issues throughout the remainder of 2011. Follow things here: http://www.goldongold.tv/. Chapter 1 is the Edge of Extremes and while the initial shot made me think I'd stumbled upon a new most interesting man video, the song and video recovered nicely. NOT that I'm opposed to the most interesting man mind you, just that I've been searching for something lower on the Constanza scale to post. You decide:

Scared Bison

Last time we saw an Edouard Solier video (thanks Jovi!) it featured a bloodthirsty/cute monster rabbit fucking up the world (see Massive Attack's "Atlas Air" here). Now, this up and coming director is working with Justice on their song "Civilization," where he takes a world of statues and Bison and literally turns it on its head. Can't wait to see what he does next...

Poetic Terrorism - I believe the next Einstein will write rhymes

Yacht kicked off their recent tour in Austin a few months back and the show was fantastic. They played a number of songs in the oft dreaded 'new material' category, that actually turned out to be the highlight of the damn circus. The new album, Shangri-La, was recorded, conceived and delivered mostly in Marfa and drops later this month. All that time in desert apparently only furthered their ideas of utopian society, anarchy, and their interaction. Here's the second single off the album, it's called Utopia. I included both the video, because I think it looks cool, and the sound cloud, because it actually sounds good. Honestly, in the video I think they just put a tape recorder next to the turn table and pressed go. Without further adieu, ladies and gentleman I present Utopia.

The unspeakable chilly Gonzalez, honestly there are no words. I'm following Parkour's lead here and simply presenting this for your enjoyment/judgement. bon appetite. Actually, I can't resist at least mentioning how sick some of these rhymes are and how f-ing weird Chilly G is.

King of Pretty

King Creosote is Kenny Anderson, a Scottish singer-songwriter who's been at it since the late nineties. He recently teamed up with electric music whiz Jon Hopkins (who you might know from collaborations with peeps like Brian Eno or Imogen Heap) on an album called Diamond Mines, released this year through Domino.

They've just released a gorgeous video for their gorgeous song "Bubbles." Elliot Dear directed and animated it. Enjoy:

Modern Droogs

British Trip-Hop legends UNKLE put out an EP in April called "Only the Lonely." In it they pair up with a few guest vocalists including the also legendary Nick Cave.

They have just released the video for that song... it reminds me of Anthony Burgess' "Clockwork Orange." Definitely worth a watch.

Money and Run:

The amazing Nick Cave photo is courtesy of NY Times Magazine. They did a photoshoot called Godfathers of Glam where they showcase some awesome clothes and some awesome musicians... go check it out here.

Constanza Factor?

Great job with the end of May Jovi, Parkour, and Rat. Wouldn't that make for a hell of a law firm. Bosco Delrey on Maddecent just released a new album and you can download Baby's got a blue flame for free. I think Bosco has already been on last choice, but I'm not sure. I'm also not sure what his 'constanza' factor is, maybe call it 4C's out of 10. If anyone else is listening post something so that Last Choice knows were not just sharing a padded cell 'writing a blog' for all of our 'friends'
