Not Mazzy Star or Neko Case

The Dum Dum Girls are not Mazzy Star or Neko Case, but if you close your eyes you might be fooled. I'm posting this because the bands leader, Dee Dee, shares the name of my friend who's wedding I'm going to this weekend. They're signed to Sub Pop and are from California, the new album is out later this year. Check them out here. Coming down is the first single and you can download it for free. I also posted a video from some older work. Bon Appetite

Lord of the Mad Maxs'

Foster the People is a three piece band from LA. They've got one big hit under their belt (Pumped Up Kicks), and have just released their second video for the song Helena Beat.

Pretty fun song and a cool little promo...

300 Pound Gorilla, Sleeps Where He Wants

I discovered this new NYC hip hop trio, Gorilla Warfare Tactics, a few months ago and they've got a new single as lead in for their due soon album. You can download the song either Here or using the hulkshare link from the embeded song. Like them on facebook. They mix classic old school beats with creative flows to create something I really enjoy.

Keep the weird times (videos) rolling

Esperanza is an Italian trio, Gomma is a German label but that doesn't help their new video make any more sense. I think I like the song, but it's leagues away from a high-constanza summer hit. Depression aside, it is a refreshing blend of genres that I think by and large pulls off something beautiful. Plus that dove trick has also worked for me on a number of occasions. My first axiom of life: Always carry a handkerchief and be capable of using it to conjure up a white dove. Their first EP is out now with an album due towards the close of 2011 - see here. Also, I couldn't in good conscious post the new T. London video (in part because every other blog already has and in part because it goes to a level of weird I'm not ready to take responsibility for) nevertheless watch at your own risk

Month of Disturbing?

I was talking to Safety Rat about this yesterday — it seems like we've been posting videos that seem disturbing/upsetting lately... at least more than usual. Very appropriately this conversation happened just minutes before we saw siblings making out on the big screen (thank you Cinema East for scarring my mind beyond repair).

Anyway, this video is pretty disturbing in a sexy/misogynistic way. It also gives me an awesome opportunity to show you guys the awesome website "Erotic Falconry" --- yes, this website confirmed my long held belief that birds of pray make everything sexier.

Facts: Mowgli is a young UK underground hip hop newcomer. He released his debut album "93" last year. Apparently Mowgli is his actual name, which I find very cool.

Here's "Skydiver:"

Les dessous pointages

As a part of my slow re-integration I've been weaning myself off French pop. I had a relapse yesterday when IheartComix featured the new (maybe the first) video from Lafayette, a rising French pop star. Pointages oui! I think we'll be hearing more from him soon, but nothing released yet. Liking him on Facebook is the only option I could find. Santé!
